VMware
is synonymous with virtualization. As the global leader in
virtualization and cloud infrastructure, this Palo Alto,
California-based virtualization giant accelerates an organization’s
transition to cloud computing, while preserving existing IT investments
and enabling more efficient, agile service delivery without compromising
control. Today, more than 5,00,000 customers rely on VMware to help
them transform the way they build, deliver and consume Information
Technology resources in a manner that is evolutionary and based on their
specific needs. With 2012 revenues of $4.61 billion, VMware has offices
throughout the world and boasts 55,000 partners. In March this year, at
a Strategic Forum for Institutional Investors, VMware revealed its
strategy and plans to deliver the software-defined data center, expand
its hybrid cloud offerings and empower the multi-device era. Recently,
Maharashtra has selected VMware virtualization and cloud infrastructure
technology for its MahaGov Cloud. In July last year, VMware bought
Nicira, an SDN start-up.
Unique Quotient
There
is no doubt that the passion to innovate permeates every aspect of the
business at VMware. Founded on the belief that every person on the team
matters, VMware’s focus is to provide the customers with a path to weave
together all the computing resources that serve their business into a
secure, compliant and controlled whole. Customers can have the freedom
to take advantage of whatever combination of cloud environments –
private, public or hybrid. A lot of research and development on cloud
happens out of its Indian development centres. The company helps
organizations reduce IT complexity by virtualizing workloads and enable
their journey to the cloud – and it is this vision that has helped
VMware become a successful company.
Competitive Advantage
At
VMworld 2012, VMware unveiled a comprehensive solution of cloud
infrastructure and management products, expertise and ecosystem support
to help customers drive greater efficiency and improve operational
agility. At the heart of the announcement was the new VMware vCloud
Suite 5.1 – the first solution to deliver the software-defined data
center. The vCloud suite integrates VMware’s leading virtualization,
cloud infrastructure and management portfolio into a single SKU,
simplifying the adoption of cloud era technologies.
Feats Fetched
VMware
has announced its plans to extend the software-defined data center with
a hybrid cloud service offering that will allow its 5,00,000 customers
to reap the benefits of the public cloud without changing their existing
applications while using a common management, orchestration, networking
and security model. The company expects to launch VMware vCloud Hybrid
Service later this year and intends to make it available through its
existing channel, working with its extensive partner ecosystem to
accelerate customers’ journey to the cloud. VMware has also created a
new Hybrid Cloud Services business unit.
Today,
VMware has 36 Service Provider Programme partners who are meeting the
increasing demand for on-demand computing from the company’s customers
in India. The company expects to see even more customers adopt its
hybrid offering which is going to be launched later in the year.
