Rajesh Khurana Country Manager for India & SAARC, Vietnam, Philippiness, Seagate Technology
A worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of hard
disk drives, solid-state hybrid drives and storage solutions, Seagate
has gone from strength to strength in the recent years to transform
itself into the brand that it is today. Seagate’s business model
leverages technology leadership and world-class manufacturing to deliver
industry-leading innovation and quality to its global customers, and to
be the low-cost producer in all markets in which it participates. The
company is committed to providing award-winning products, customer
support and reliability to meet the world’s growing demand for
information storage. Continuing innovation in technology and marketing
from the company saw further recognition by industry peers.
In
India, Seagate operates out of its India Office at New Delhi, providing
extensive and comprehensive service and support to its countrywide
network of distributors, channel partners and resellers.
Unique Quotient
Seagate
holds the industry’s broadest enterprise portfolio and the inclusion of
the Seagate Enterprise line adds another feather to its cap.
Furthermore, the acquisition of Lacie by Seagate added the company’s
line of premium branded consumer storage solutions, network-attached
storage solutions and software offerings. Seagate also entered into an
alliance with DensBits, inventor of the world’s first Memory Modem, a
strategic move to help in development of low-cost, high-performance
Solid State Drives for the consumer and enterprise markets.
Competitive Strategy
In
partnership with four national distributors – Fortune Marketing,
Supertron Electronics, Ingram Micro India and Redington India, Seagate
has a distribution network that enhances the availability of Seagate
products across the country. Leveraging the strength of these partners,
Seagate continues to maintain market leadership through the combined
networks of the distributors and tier-2 dealers/channel partners
throughout the country.
In September
2012, Seagate announced the Cloud Builder Alliance, a new strategic
partner category within the company’s existing Seagate Partner
Programme. The new programme provides technical information, customer
insights, market knowledge and delivers partners the tools needed to
expand their businesses providing cloud storage technology. The Seagate
Cloud Builder Alliance highlights system builders that design, integrate
and deliver custom servers and storage systems used in cloud data
centers.
Feats Fetched
Throughout
its more than three decades of existence, Seagate has an unparalleled
record of innovation with several industry firsts in defining storage
technology and the overall market. The most recent of tech initiatives
and new introduction from Seagate bolstered it further as a
technologically empowered company.
Seagate’s
customer support network in India also needs a special mention here. It
includes 110 walk-in SeaCare Centres manned by trained technical staff
where customers can send in faulty drives and collect them after
rectification. In addition, in areas where there may be no SeaCare
Centres, customers can reach the Seagate Premier Partner which acts as
collection and delivery centres. The Seagate service reach has been
further enhanced with a free pick-and-drop facility from customers’
doorstep – a benefit for those in remote locations.
Going
forward, Seagate will continue to look at new and emerging market
segments that are poised to grow exponentially in India – these include
the application-specific hard drives for vertical market segments that
are taking off. Seagate views the retail-consumer segment as also very
important, emerging as the fastest growing.
